Eight hundred years of history, a hospitality that never goes out of style
In the heart of the Novara area, where the waters of the Agogna flow placidly towards the Middle Lands, stands a manor that has spanned eight centuries without ever losing its soul. Castello Visconti is a place where history is still told today, amid pebble and brick walls, sixteenth-century porticos, and the complicit silence of a centuries-old park.
The origins of a fortress
The year was 1220 when the feudal lords Da Momo wanted a tangible sign of their power: thus the castrum of Vaprio was born, an outpost contested for generations between noble families and ducal ambitions. Destroyed in 1358 during the wars between the Visconti and the Marquis of Montferrat, the manor was reborn at the end of the fifteenth century by will of the Caccia family, who made it their home and expanded it to give it the appearance we can still admire today.
A castellain who inspired a novel
Living within these corridors at the end of the sixteenth century was one of the most controversial figures in Piedmontese history: Giovanni Battista Caccia, known as “il Caccetta”. A feared conspirator against Spanish rule, his story—filled with intrigue, trials, and a final execution on the scaffold in Milan—would inspire Alessandro Manzoni for the character of Don Rodrigo in The Betrothed (I Promessi Sposi). A legend that still lives among the stones of the castle, ready to be told to anyone who crosses its threshold.
From the Visconti to the present day
Passed on to the Visconti and preserved over the centuries by the Tagliabue family, the castle has kept its architectural identity completely intact: three floors, an attic, and an elegant eight-arched portico overlooking the park. A careful and respectful restoration has preserved every single detail, from noble coats of arms to the original pebbles, transforming this ancient residence into a contemporary retreat without ever betraying its essence.

Castello Visconti was born from the desire to offer those traveling for business or pleasure a corner of authentic Italian history.
